Guillermo began his music training at Fundación Nacional Batuta at age 9, later continuing his studies at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance. He was a member of the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia and was also the winner of their Young Soloist Competition. Additionally, he was invited by maestro Andres Orozco-Estrada as principal timpanist of the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia in their 2017 European Tour. He participated in the YOA Orchestra of the Americas, Mahler Chamber Academy in Germany, Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander in Spain, FEMUSC in Brazil and Cartagena International Music Festival. He has performed with several orchestras including the South Florida Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Nacional de Colombia, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Bogota Chamber Orchestra, Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, and Orquesta Filarmonica de Bogota. He has also developed his career through chamber music collaborations such as the Frost Percussion Group, Ensemble Ibis, Wankara Percussion Ensemble, and Contempo Percussion Ensemble. Guillermo has recently received his Master’s degree in Music Performance at the University of Miami under the tutelage of professors Svet Stoyanov and Matthew Strauss.
